Women waging peace in the Middle East
24 April 2018 - A group of women in the Middle East have learned to contact the source of peace within themselves through the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique. Dorit Goldschmidt teaches TM to Arab and Jewish women in Israel. 'There is so much stress here, and TM gives women the resilience we need. If more and more women and mothers start meditating, it will affect their families because they are the center of their homes. . . . the effect on the community can be significant.' Research has found TM highly effective in reducing stress, anxiety, even PTSD in the individual - and that its effects can spread in the environment. A study published in the Journal of Conflict Resolution found that during a two-month period in 1983 during the Lebanon-Israel conflict, when a peace-creating group of advanced TM meditators convened in Jerusalem, conflict, violence and war fatalities decreased significantly. David Lynch Foundation CEO to present at 'Unite to Cure' - global health conference at the Vatican, 28 April
23 April 2018 - The David Lynch Foundation (DLF) will participate in 'Unite To Cure: A Global Health Care Initiative' - a groundbreaking international event at the Vatican this weekend designed to create an open dialogue and help speed cures for patients all over the world. Bob Roth, David Lynch Foundation CEO, will speak on Saturday, 28 April, about DLF's work bringing Transcendental Meditation to at-risk youth worldwide. The full title of the Cura Foundation's Fourth International Vatican Conference is: Unite to Cure: How Science, Technology, and 21st Century Medicine Will Impact Culture and Society. Cura Foundation President Dr. Robin Smith said the conference is 'a ''Davos'' for health care'. (more)

Africa: New research shows Transcendental Meditation empowers disadvantaged Ugandan mothers
22 April 2018 - A study published 18 April in Health Care for Women International shows how the Transcendental Meditation technique can empower women's lives, using measures of self-efficacy, perceived stress, and mental and physical quality of life. The practice was shown to help single, disadvantaged, illiterate mothers in Uganda deal with high levels of physical and psychological stress in their daily lives while improving their health, well-being, and ability to support themselves and their children. A top leader in the Uganda Ministry of Health said the findings are extremely important in showing how this simple meditation technique can provide a platform for impoverished mothers to help themselves. First ever neuroimaging study of people in the midst of Transcendental Meditation - British Psychological Society review
21 April 2018 - It is possible to pay attention effortlessly, your mind 'pulled by the inherent nature of the object of experience'. In fact, with practice, doing so can 'lead you to experience inner silence, tranquility, peace and transcendence'. That's according to a research team led by Michelle Mahone at the California School of Professional Psychology, who have published in Brain and Cognition what they describe as the first neuroimaging study of people in the midst of Transcendental Meditation (TM). An effortless meditation for children (because anxiety doesn't care how old you are)
19 April 2018 - Dr William Stixrud is a clinical neuropsychologist who helps kids gripped by anxiety or struggling to learn. Ned Johnson is a motivational coach who runs a tutoring service. Seeing even high-performing kids coming to them acutely stressed, they discovered that the best antidote is to give kids more of a sense of control over their lives - and recommend Transcendental Meditation as one means to accomplish this. An excerpt from their new book, The Self-Driven Child, reviews research on the physiological state of restful alertness produced during TM. This deep rest creates a more efficient stress response in the nervous system - enabling young people to 'let it go' and recover faster. Is Transcendental Meditation the same as mindfulness?
17 April 2018 - With the value of meditation becoming widely recognized, researchers are finding that different techniques engage the mind in different ways, producing different effects on mind, body and behaviour. The Transcendental Meditation technique is unlike other forms of meditation, involving no concentration, mindfulness, or contemplation, writes Amy Ruff, director of TM for Nurses in the USA. It's a completely different process - 'an automatic self-transcending meditation technique that allows the mind to go beyond thought, beyond the meditation process itself.' Research has found that TM produces deeper rest than other practices, is more effective for reducing hypertension, anxiety and depression, and is the only meditation known to create widespread brainwave coherence and an increase in brain integration. 'Being naturally mindful in daily life - more in the moment, more aware, more alert - is something that happens spontaneously as a result of the TM practice,' Ruff says. (more)
